UEFA are set to charge the West Ham players who tried to defend their families from AZ Alkmaar ultras CaughtOffside

West Ham players who tried to defend their families from the AZ Alkmaar ultras are reportedly facing a UEFA charge.

That’s according to Sunday Express who claim that despite the nature of the situation, the players involved could face a punishment from UEFA.

The incident occurred following West Ham’s 1-0 away win that secured their spot in the tournament’s final.

Approximately 100 AZ Alkmaar ultras were left furious by the jubilant celebrations of the West Ham fans after Pablo Fornals scored the decisive goal at the AFAS Stadium.

Amidst the chaos, several West Ham stars quickly rushed over to protect their loved ones from the advancing ultras.

This included the likes of Declan Rice and Said Benrahma who were seen attempting to prevent the Dutch ultras from entering the stadium section specified for the families of the West Ham players.

The report suggests that UEFA are not happy with the situation that occurred. AZ were supposed to behave well during a probation period, but they failed to do so.

Additionally, the report claims that UEFA might also the ‘come down hard’ on the West Ham players who were involved in the altercation.

It would be quite a bizarre decision to punish the players for merely defending their loved ones from a group of hooligans that had no good intentions.

If it were not for the heroics of West Ham fan Chris Knolls who single handedly fought off a bunch of approaching the specified section, who knows what could have happened.
