Newcastle United are reportedly keeping tabs on the Brazilian defender Carlos Augusto.
According to a report from Calciomercato, the 24-year-old Brazilian full-back has attracted the attention of the Premier League club with his performances for the Italian club Monza this season. Newcastle could submit a proposal for the player at the end of the season.
Augusto has six goals and five assists to his name across all competitions and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for Newcastle.
The Magpies have used Dan Burn as the left-back this season, but the experienced defender is more suited to a central role. Eddie Howe needs to bring in a specialist left-back this summer and the Brazilian would be a quality addition.
Augusto is not just a reliable defender, but he will also add a new dimension to their attack going forward.
Newcastle are currently pushing for Champions League qualification and they will be an attractive destination for most players. The 24-year-old is likely to be tempted to join them this summer.
Furthermore, the Magpies certainly have the financial resources to convince Monza to sell their star defender.
A move to the Premier League would be a step up in the player’s career, and he will be determined to showcase his qualities at a higher level. Augusto has the qualities to thrive in English football and he could establish himself as a key player for Newcastle in the coming seasons.
Furthermore, the defender has a contract with Monza until the summer of 2024 and the Italian outfit will be under pressure to cash in on him if he does not sign an extension with them soon.
